Ragworms or scientifically Nereidide, are huge aquatic worms that almost look like something out of a horror movie. This specie of annelid can grow from a range of 2.5cm to 90cm long (let's just hope we don't have to see the one that is 90cm long). Nereidide fall under the class of annelid called the ploychaeta, a group of marine segmented worms. What makes Ragworms so scary looking aside from it's size is that it has huge retractable jaws for its pray. During mating season a ragworm will swell in it's rear filled with sperm and ova. The ragworm would then wait until it's dark and fertilize the eggs to put it on the surface of the water.
A ragworm just like any other Annelid does not have a skeleton. Like the earthworm a ragworm has an hydrostatic skeleton which allows it to change the pressure inside it's body to make its shape. If the ragworm were to increase the amount of pressure inside its body it would appear fatter, if the roundworm were to decrease the amount of pressure inside its body than its body would appear skinnier. This change allows the ragworm to survive in it's environment better.
