The Loa loa or more commonly known as the African eye worm because of its presence in a host's eye, is a parasitic nematode. Even though when the African eye worm crosses the conjunctiva of the eye it will be seen, most of the time the African eye worm is mostly wandering through the subcutaneous tissue. Also, like most parasitic nematodes, the African eye worm feeds off the hosts blood and in order for it to reproduce it must have another African eye worm of the opposite gender present in the same host. How could this thing evolve over time if the chances of two African eye worms being in the same host are unlikely? A host may have many African eye worms present at the same time and not even know it. Luckily the Loa loa is difficult to catch unless one were to be bitten by a deer fly.
The Loa loa does not have a skeleton structure because it is a nematode. Evolutionary wise the Loa loa didn't need a skeleton to survive based on the fact that the chances of the African eye worm being squished is unlikely, especially since the only time something were to crush it would be on the eye of a host in which it is unlikely that the host would squish its own eye.
If someone were to have an African eye worm, then in order to get rid of it is to kill it first without causing it to infect the body through the use of drugs. If someone were to try to dissect the eye in order to get the eye worm it would create permanent damage to the eye and risk the fact that the worm may be killed in a way that would infect the body.
